Iron Ripple is one of the bulkiest Pokemon in the tier with an incredible defensive typing. Water Fairy gives it a host of resistances that it can abuse to come in on opposing Pokemon and slowly switch out with Flip Turn. Of course it can also do some other things such as crippling a Pokemon with Thunder Wave on a non Assault Vest set. It can Mirror Coat in front of opposing special attackers to threaten them. With its specially defensive EV spread it can easily live a Sludge Wave from +0 Booster Speed Iron Moth and has over a 60% chance to live a second. It can use this time to cripple Iron Moth with Thunder Wave, Flip Turn out while getting a large amount of chip on Iron Moth, or Mirror Coat/Metal Burst to threaten a KO. SpDef Iron Ripple is also one of the best checks into Z Celebrate Victini with it easily being able to take 2 Stored Powers from Victini after Z-Celebrate and being able to cripple it or outright kill it. Flip Turn helps Iron Ripple maintain momentum, Mirror Coat or Metal Burst are its main kill options. Thunder Wave allows it to cripple select Pokemon while Body Press allows Iron Ripple to have a stronger offensive option on physically Defensive sets. Psychic Noise stops Celesteela and other such mons that would like to hide behind a Substitute. Ice Beam is a strong coverage option that is strong into much of the tier.
Team Options
Weaknesses
In National Dex UU especially, it is extremely hard for Iron Ripple to function when a large portion of the tier has a super effective STAB option into it. On top of this, Iron Ripple doesn't have a very strong offensive balance and lacks Scald, meaning that it can't threaten physical attackers in the same way that it can special attackers. Making it extremely weak to some of the strongest offensive threats in the tier like mega Beedrill or Rillaboom.
