- Two good defensive abilities for Rock monotyping. Storm Drain and Filter are awesome abilities for a Rock type. Storm Drain doubles as a free immunity for one of its weaknesses and redirection for an ally in doubles into Water type attacks. Filter is also great to weaken the five type weaknesses Rock does have.
- Good base Special Attack. 110 base SpA is pretty good, allowing it to decently chunk.
- Good coverage. Masquerjade has decent coverage in Energy Ball, Surf, Dazzling Gleam, and a bunch of Psychic type moves.
- Meteor Beam. Meteor Beam is a great STAB special move for Masquerjade to raise its SpA (as it is the only form of offensive set-up it gets) that also doubles as a nice wallbreaking move and can be expedited once with Power Herb.
- Good utility moves for doubles use. Masquerjade has access to Wide Guard and Screens and can copy the ability of the many other targets on the field with Role Play. It can swap stats with its stat swap moves and set harsh sunlight, rain, and grassy terrain.

- Medicore bulk. While not awful, 65/70/80 is not particularly great for living numerous hits.
- Middling speed. Not too fast but not too slow, 80 base Speed is pretty hard to utilize in or out of Trick Room unless used with Room Service/Choice Scarf and intentional speed minimization/maximization.
- Lacking “non-situational” utility moves. A lot of its utility moves are really niche. They can find a hard time finding a good spot on a set.
- Offensive movepool lacks “oomph”. Masquerjade has few attacks that can really threaten most Pokémon's switch-in or stay-in aside from Meteor Beam.
- Lacking recovery/staying power. Masquerjade's best tool to stay-in is Cosmic Power but can easily get chipped down without a form of innate recovery.
