- Very bulky. 75/90/125 is very respectable bulk, especially when both Defence and Special Defence can be boost via moves in its movepool.
- Recovery. While not the passive healing of Leech Seed certain Grass types get, Synthesis is still a powerful tool for staying power without the need of Leftovers.
- Iron Defense and Body Press. The combination of Iron Defense and Body Press provides Karstory with a valuable damage tool while having to not spend a single EV in Atk.
- Synergy with Sand. Karstory's status as a wall is heightened when in Sand as its already high Special Defence gets boosted further.
- Good physical coverage. While it is not a particularly strong physical attacker (its base Attack is at least marginally greater than its Special Attack), its physical coverage and STABs consist of moves with great power.
- Solid Rock on a Rock/Grass type is really good. While possessing 4 weaknesses and 2 resists, these weaknesses are mitigated by this ability with no conditions required.

- Very slow. Karstory is very slow. In normal settings, this is quite a bane for it but under Trick Room, this is great.
- Little offensive pressure outside of Body Press. While it was mentioned Karstory has great physical moves in its pool, its Attack stat isn't great enough to threaten most Pokémon that sit in front of it unless it is something it can Body Press.
- Competition with Garganacl and Stakataka. Karstory has to compete with the likes of Garganacl and Stakataka who fall under similar roles with their own special tools.
